The Takeover Trail is a strategy game where you play as dictator hell-bent on taking over the world. Players spread their influence using propaganda, social media, and religion, and must strategically invade and conquer countries one by one until the entire world is brainwashed. All the while, they must battle against revolutionaries and squash rebellions before they are overthrown.

I began work on the Take Over Trial as an intern of Mass Digi in the Spring of 2017. My role as programmer was to revamp the overarching systems that would connect the various levels within the game, allow it to expand from 1 level to a potentially unlimited amount with a high score system. My exemplary ability at this task allowed me to also contribute to more areas of the project like level design. The following is a list of my total contributions:

  • Established the code-base for level selection, laying the ground work to expand the game's level count infinitely.

  • Overhauled the high score system. It now auto-generates a save key for each level's score, removing the necessity of manually programming one each time a new level's created.

  • Created the third and forth levels, expanding the game's content and longevity.

  • Drafted a step-by-step guide to building a level for future development, expediting the process of level creation and removing the task of training new level designers from the project head.

  • Connected the Android and Iphone leaderboards to the second level.

  • Ensured that all of the above contributions could be easily understood and built upon by future team members.
